Since its inception in 1966, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation has been committed to the improvement of education in Idaho. Positive development of children and youth is a key focus of the Foundation's giving. The family Foundation was started by Joe and Kathryn with private family funds.
The Foundation has given more than $285 million in the past 10 years.
The Foundation will give more than $28 million this year through its community and education grants and initiatives.
The Foundation's endowment in 2005 was approximately $522M. The Foundation's rounded estimate for 2006 was approximately $540M.
There is no relationship between the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation and the Albertson Corporation or the Albertson Store's foundation.
Community Grants Program
The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation awarded $5.8 million in community grants in 2006. Grant recipients are selected based on their ability to positively impact the lives of children and to fill a critical need not being met elsewhere in the community. Organizations granted Foundation funding are expected to be well-run and demonstrate the ability to leverage Foundation investments.
In 2006, the Foundation's major education grant program was its Community College initiative. The initiative's aim was to help increase access in the Treasure Valley to high quality, affordable, comprehensive community college education.
The Foundation awarded more than $12 million in education grants in 2006.
The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals.
